🗺️ Daoshi Station Utonai Lake (UTONAI Lake)道の駅 ウトナイ湖

Utonai Lake (宇多內湖) is a habitat for waterbirds registered under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, which is recognized as an internationally important wetland. The area is also designated as a national wildlife protection zone, attracting wild birds such as white-fronted geese, ducks, and swans, making it an excellent spot for birdwatching. There is a roadside rest area by the lake. The facility includes an observation deck, where visitors can simultaneously see wild birds flying and enjoy the lake view from the second-floor observation deck. By climbing to the third floor and walking out to the rooftop deck, one can enjoy a 360-degree view of the lake, fully experiencing Hokkaido's rich natural scenery. Inside the facility, there is a restaurant that serves dishes made with the highest production specialty from Tomakomai, the "Kita-gai" (北寄貝) rice bowl and curry, along with dishes made from Hokkaido rice and buckwheat flour. Visitors are welcome to taste a variety of delicious Hokkaido specialty meals made from various ingredients. There is also a shop selling a range of merchandise related to the "Silver-throated Long-tailed Tit" (銀喉長尾山雀). This cute, round wild bird has seen a rapid increase in its fan base on social media. The Silver-throated Long-tailed Tit is a species unique to Hokkaido, and you might have the chance to see one during your visit. Located about 10 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport (新千歲機場), it is conveniently situated, making it a great stop on your way to your travel destination.
