📜 Content

Giant three-dimensional signs of various creatures like crabs, octopuses, cows, and cranes protrude into the streets, creating a lively scene in Osaka's Dotonbori. Along the Dotonbori River flowing to the north and the main street located to the south, numerous restaurants and shops line up closely. The main street is a pedestrian zone, where many people can be seen walking and tasting delicacies like takoyaki. Ebisubashi, which extends from the Shinsaibashi shopping district, is also a symbolic landmark of Dotonbori. On the southern bank, there is the iconic Glico Running Man, welcoming every visitor with open arms. The current version, renovated in 2014, is the sixth generation sign and has been changed to an LED display. Additionally, the "Kushikatsu Daruma," which joyfully beats a drum and bell, is an indispensable presence in Dotonbori. Its cheerful sounds create a lively atmosphere and it is well-known as the "face of Dotonbori." There are also various attractions beyond food, such as the "Osaka Shochikuza," which hosts Kabuki and musical performances, the "Dotonbori River Cruise" that offers views of the street scene from the water, and the "Dotonbori Riverside Promenade," a walking path that stretches about 2 kilometers along the riverbank. Furthermore, the Dotonbori River is an artificial canal, with its construction dating back to 1612. It was initiated by Yasui Doton, who began digging the Nambori River. After Doton's death, his cousin Dōboku took over the project, which was completed in 1615. To honor Doton's achievements, it was named "Dotonbori."
