📖 Details

Pumen Temple was built in 1537. It is a temple rebuilt on the ruins of a temple that was destroyed by war. The temple enshrines Yakushi Nyorai (Bhaisajyaguru) in the main hall, praying all day to save sentient beings from diseases and eliminate disasters. Since then, the Yakushi Bodhisattva of Pumen Temple has become well-known as the "Buddha of Eye Protection" far and wide. On the day of the annual memorial service on September 12, people flock to the temple to pay their respects and receive "Omeyama" (two white round balls) from the temple, praying for the elimination of eye ailments. Within the temple grounds, there is a giant ginkgo tree, which gradually turns yellow from December to January, creating a beautiful sight.

It is the renowned "Buddha of Eye Protection." Every year on September 12, one can receive the "Omotama," which blesses and alleviates eye ailments, from the temple. The large ginkgo tree within the grounds reaches its peak season from December to January each year.
