🎎 Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale
🎨 Festival Gallery
📝 Introduction
The Echigo-Tsumari region has been hosting a contemporary art festival since 2000.
📖 Details
Located in the Echigo-Tsumari region of Niigata Prefecture, amidst lush green mountains, a variety of contemporary art pieces are exhibited year-round. The "Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale," held every three years, features not only permanent works but also newly created pieces, along with various performances and experiential activities.
Outside of the art festival period, there are approximately 200 works on permanent display, created by artists from both domestic and international backgrounds with unique styles. Due to the area's heavy snowfall, "snow protection barriers" are erected in winter to safeguard the artworks from being damaged by snow, resulting in fewer pieces being publicly displayed during this time. However, there are still art spots that can be enjoyed year-round. The festival's base, the "Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art, MonET," and the "Matsudai Snow Country Agricultural Culture Center 'Nō Butai,'" which showcases snow country agricultural culture and art, remain open for visits in winter.
The exhibition area is vast, and with limited bus and train schedules, it is recommended to drive if you wish to see more works. During certain periods, official guided tours with a guide are also available.
