The 豐平峽水庫 (Toyohira Dam) is a reservoir built on the upper reaches of the Toyohira River in the Minami ward of Sapporo City. It serves not only as a flood control measure for the Toyohira River but also as a source of water for Sapporo City. The area around the reservoir is a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves, making it a well-known tourist attraction.
In autumn, it attracts many residents of Sapporo and a large number of tourists. The reservoir also holds sightseeing flood releases. From June to October each year, flood releases are conducted from 9 AM to 4 PM, allowing visitors to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the surrounding mountains and forests.
In addition to the walking paths that have been developed near the reservoir, there is also a waterfall named 九段瀑布 (Kudan Falls) nearby. Furthermore, there is an observation deck and a restaurant called "Dammier (だむみえーる)," where visitors can relax and enjoy the stunning views. The restaurant offers outdoor views while guests savor the popular Genghis Khan barbecue. Additionally, to protect the environment, visitors must take an electric bus from the entrance to the reservoir. Wheelchairs can also access the cable car, ensuring a safe visit.
