📜 Content

Surrounded by nature, the Fugaku Wind Cave is one of the largest natural caves among the many lava caves in the Aokigahara Forest. It has a total length of approximately 201 meters and a height of 8.7 meters, with a passage through the cave taking about 15 minutes. The average temperature inside the cave is 3 degrees Celsius, making it cool even in summer. In the early Showa period (1920s), it was used as a natural refrigerator for preserving silkworm pupae and is designated as a national natural monument. The walls are made of basalt, which has sound-absorbing properties, so despite being inside a cave, there is no echo, creating a fascinating experience. If you join a guided tour, you can see natural features such as ice pillars that do not melt even in summer, lava shelves, and rope-like lava formations. At the nearby shop "Forest Station Fugaku," you can purchase famous snacks and local products from Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures. Among them, Kōshū red wine, Yamanashi sake, and shochu are particularly popular as souvenirs.
