🍜 Ganso Honkichi-ya Okihata Store

📝 Introduction

Inheriting the unchanging flavors of the water town of Yanagawa for over 300 years.

📖 Details

Founded in the first year of the Tenhe era (1681), this legendary restaurant is said to be the origin of the famous dish "Seiro Unagi Meshi" (steamed eel rice) from the water town of Yanagawa. Yanagawa, known for its abundant and clear water sources, has long been recognized as a famous production area for eel. It is here that "Seiro Unagi Meshi" was born. The secret sauce and cooking techniques passed down from the first generation have been faithfully inherited through the years, providing a consistent and delicious taste. The signature dish "Seiro Unagi Meshi" features rice that is first steamed and then topped with fragrant grilled eel drizzled with sauce, along with a garnish of shredded egg, followed by another round of steaming to create an exquisite culinary experience. The eel, after being steamed, becomes fluffy and incredibly tender, perfectly complemented by the sweet and savory sauce, allowing diners to indulge in the delightful flavors of eel. The "Seiro Teishoku" includes "Seiro Unagi Meshi" along with pickled vegetables, eel liver soup, and tsukemono (Japanese pickles). At the Okidate branch, located along the Okidate River tributary, guests can enjoy views of the famous Yanagawa boat tours from the windows of the restaurant, immersing themselves in the local atmosphere. Since the restaurant is close to the Yanagawa boat tour's "Okidate Landing," it is recommended to enjoy both the "boat tour" and the "Seiro Unagi Meshi," two of Yanagawa's great specialties, at the same time.
