About Hachiman Tower
A scenic spot where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Sea of Japan and volcanic lakes.
Details
The Oga Peninsula extends northwest from Akita Prefecture into the Sea of Japan. Hachibodai is a scenic spot located on the high ground at the northern end. The name Hachibodai was given by Prince Takamatsu, the younger brother of Emperor Showa, during his inspection of the Oga Peninsula in 1952.
At Hachibodai, there is an observation deck that offers a panoramic view of the surroundings. On the west side, you can see Togawa Bay, which thrived during the Edo period while waiting for the winds to fill the sails. On the east side, there are volcanic lakes, Ichinomegata and Ninomegata, formed by the accumulation of water in the crater, as well as a view of the Kankofu mountain range and the border with Aomori Prefecture. This location is also famous for its sunset views, where the sight of the sun setting into the Sea of Japan is breathtaking.
Nearby, there are several tourist attractions, including the "Namahage Museum," which features the Namahage, an important intangible folk cultural asset, and the "Oga Shinzan Folklore Museum." Additionally, the "Shinzan Shrine," which hosts the Namahage Sedo Festival, is worth a visit.
