About Hehuan Wood Garden
Standing in the residential area, a garden filled with a healing ambiance.
Details
The "Nemunoki Garden" (合歡木庭園) is located in a corner of the bustling Shinagawa district, nestled within a residential area that lies beyond the office buildings. This park has deep royal connections, situated on the former site of the "Shoda Residence," the family home of Empress Michiko. After renovations, it opened to the public in 2004. The name comes from the lullaby "Heianboku no Yurikago" (合歡木搖籃曲) composed by Empress Michiko during her high school years.
The garden features around 50 varieties of flowers, plants, and trees, with the "Heianboku" (合歡木) symbolizing the park. In mid-June, it blooms with delicate flowers. Among the highlights is the "Princess Michiko" rose, gifted by the UK during her time as Crown Princess, which showcases vibrant orange flowers in spring and autumn, delighting visitors.
The park is open from 9 AM to 5 PM, closing only during the New Year period. Admission is free, making it an easily accessible spot for a leisurely visit—a small park where one can forget the hustle and bustle of the city and rejuvenate both body and mind.
Highlights
There are the 合歡木 (Albizia julibrissin) and about 50 types of flowers and herbs mentioned in the "合歡木搖籃曲" (Albizia Cradle Song). Located in a residential area, it is a green spot that heals the heart. You can see the "美智子公主" (Princess Michiko) rose gifted by the UK.
