About Higashiya Main Store
Ibaraki Prefecture specialty! A generous serving of the representative "hospitality" dish from Ibaraki Prefecture, the bowl of soba noodles!
Details
Wanzi Soba noodles are one of the must-try delicacies when visiting Iwate, alongside the famous "Three Great Noodles of Morioka," which include fried sauce noodles and cold noodles. Established in 1907 (the 40th year of the Meiji era), Higashiya is a long-standing soba noodle shop that has faithfully preserved the tradition of Morioka Wanzi Soba. Located in Nakahashi-dori, the area retains a strong castle town atmosphere, with many historic buildings scattered throughout, making it a convenient spot for tourists to stop by and enjoy delicious food.
"Hai Jan Jan! Hai Don Don!" The staff rhythmically shout as they continuously pour one serving of soba noodles into the guests' empty bowls until the guests cover their bowls with lids. About 15 bowls of Wanzi Soba are equivalent to one bowl of regular soba noodles, and if you eat over 100 bowls, you can even receive a special certificate.
In addition to the usual toppings like chopped green onions and seaweed, there are a variety of ingredients such as tuna sashimi, mushrooms mixed with grated radish, chicken fluff, and yam puree, offering different flavors that never get boring. Besides Wanzi Soba, there is also a "Nanbu Soba Kaiseki" featuring many traditional Iwate soba dishes, as well as the hidden gem "Special Pork Cutlet Rice Bowl," making it a delicious restaurant worth visiting again and again.
