📖 Details

The Akita Dog Village, established in 2019, is a tourist exchange facility located near JR "Odate" Station. The building is themed around the most famous Akita dog in Japan, "Hachiko," and its exterior resembles the Shibuya Station building from the Taisho era. In front of the building stands a commemorative statue of Hachiko. Inside, there is the "Akita Dog Museum," which introduces the characteristics and history of Akita dogs, as well as the "Akita Dog Exhibition Room," where visitors can see Akita dogs. There is also a shop selling Akita dog-related merchandise. In the "My Favorite Akita Dog" themed display area, many pet dog photos collected through a writing contest are showcased, along with articles narrating short stories about these pets. The facility also features a small tower made of 160 plush dolls modeled after the Akita dog "Akan," which is very eye-catching. Akita dog "Akan" was once given to Russian figure skater Alina Zagitova. From the outdoor terrace on the second floor, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Odate cityscape. The Akita Dog Village is built on the former site of the Kosaka Railway, which once transported ore from the Kosaka Mine and passengers. The original trains and tracks from that time are still preserved here, and after visiting, guests can also experience riding the old manual handcar.
