📝 Introduction

Designated as a registered historic building in Kanazawa City, this tea house has a history of approximately 200 years.

📖 Details

Kaihwa Building is located in a corner of the Higashi Chaya District, designated as a "National Important Traditional Building Preservation Area." With an age of about 200 years, it is the largest teahouse building in Kanazawa. Due to its unique appearance, it was designated as a Kanazawa City designated preservation building in 1991 and has appeared in various films and television shows multiple times. During the day, the interior of the building is open for visitors, allowing them to admire the traditional craftsmanship of the "Wajima-nuri" lacquered red staircase and the red lacquered room still used for "zashiki-asobi" (traditional parlor games). Among these, the "Golden Layer Tea Room," which features Kanazawa traditional crafts such as gold leaf and mizuhiki, is a unique tea room that can only be found in Kaihwa Building. In the attached "Kaihwa Building Café," visitors can enjoy luxurious tea treats. A must-try on the menu is the "Kaihwa Building Specialty Golden Kuzukiri" (1900 yen), which is freshly made and decorated with gold leaf, and the "KURAMOTO Ice Industry 'Kanazawa Ice Room' Luxurious Matcha Shaved Ice" (1600 yen), made using Kanazawa ice. Additionally, in the gift shop converted from the room "Uchikura," which has been plastered with mud, visitors can purchase products favored by geishas, such as moisturizing lotions infused with gold leaf.
