About Huri-an

You can leisurely enjoy the scenery of Lake Biwa at a lakeside ryokan that offers carp sushi kaiseki cuisine.

Details

The funa sushi from the Omi region is said to be the oldest existing type of sushi. The long-established restaurant "Uoji," which has been in business for over 200 years, has opened a ryokan called "Kori-an" across the street. The name was given by the literary giant Shusaku Endo, who loved the restaurant's cuisine and scenery. The restaurant features large windows that cover an entire wall, allowing guests at both the counter and table seats to enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Biwa. The seventh-generation owner of Uoji personally oversees the kitchen, offering only one kaiseki course for both lunch and dinner. In addition to various ways to enjoy the signature funa sushi, guests can also taste local ingredients from Lake Biwa, such as sweetfish, Biwa trout, and river shrimp. The funa sushi, aged for two years, has a rich umami flavor that pairs perfectly with local sake. The restaurant can also be used as an accommodation-type dining establishment, accepting only one group of guests per day. In the living room furnished with Scandinavian furniture or the bathroom overlooking Lake Biwa, guests can enjoy the changing scenery while relaxing. Accommodation is only available for middle school students and above; elementary school students are not permitted to stay. Dining is also limited to middle school students and above, or guests who can eat the same meals as adults.
