About Ikuta Green Space
A natural landscape area near Tokyo, also featuring unique cultural facilities.
Details
Ikuta Green Park is located in a corner of the Tama Hills and is one of the most representative green parks in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The vast area of the park preserves precious natural resources, including mixed forests centered around Japanese oak and sweetgum, wetlands, and springs. With the changing seasons, visitors can enjoy a rich variety of flowers, grasses, and trees. Especially during the cherry blossom season from March to April each year, Ikuta Green Park becomes a popular cherry blossom viewing spot, attracting large crowds of flower enthusiasts as the cherry blossoms bloom. From the "Masugata-yama Observation Deck" within the park, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the distant Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree.
The park also features many unique cultural facilities, such as the "Kawasaki City Tarō Okamoto Museum of Art" and the "Kawasaki City Japanese Folk House Museum," attracting numerous visitors from both Japan and abroad. Among the various facilities, the "Traditional Crafts Museum," where visitors can experience the Japanese indigo dyeing technique, is highly recommended; the "Kawasaki Space and Green Science Museum," where one can observe the starry sky and natural phenomena using a planetarium; the "Kawasaki Fujiko F. Fujio Museum," which showcases the works of the author of the manga Doraemon; and the "Ikuta Green Park Rose Garden," which is open to the public during the spring and autumn seasons.
Highlights
There are well-maintained trails that make reasonable use of the natural environment and terrain of the Tama Hills, making it very suitable for hiking. In spring, you can enjoy cherry blossoms and azaleas; in early summer, irises bloom; in autumn, the maple trees create beautiful red foliage; and in winter, plum blossoms can be seen, allowing for flower viewing enjoyment throughout the year.
You can take an elevator to the "Masugata Mountain Observatory" within the park, where you can overlook Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, and Mount Fuji. The "D51 steam locomotive" on display in the park is a popular photo spot (located in the outdoor exhibition area of the "Kawasaki Space and Greenery Science Museum").
