The Imperial Palace East Garden refers to the area surrounding the Imperial Palace, centered around the plaza in front of the main gate. The plaza features a vast green lawn, planted with approximately 2,000 black pines.
Here, you can see the historically significant and culturally valuable "Nijubashi" (二重橋). There is also the "Sakuradamon" (櫻田門), which has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of the country, as well as a statue representing the famous warrior "Kusunoki Masashige" (楠木正成) that showcases his majestic presence.
In the moat that gently flows around the Imperial Palace, you can often see the elegant figures of swans. In winter, you can enjoy the sight of many migratory birds coming and going. Within the Wadakura Fountain Park in the East Garden, there are artistically designed fountains and a 30-meter-wide artificial waterfall, resembling an urban oasis.
