About Jūnidankai Main Store
Enjoy exquisite flavors at the renowned originator of "Shabu-Shabu."
Details
Located near the famous tourist attraction in Kyoto, Yasaka Shrine, is the central area of Gion. If you head south along the main street of Gion, Hanamikoji-dori, you will see a building that blends the charm of traditional Kyoto machiya with robust folk art architecture. This is the renowned "Juni-dan-ya Honten," famous for being the birthplace of shabu-shabu.
In 1949, the second owner conceived the "beef hot pot," which is said to be the origin of shabu-shabu. Select Kyoto sirloin beef is quickly dipped in a copper pot of broth heated over charcoal, and enjoyed with a homemade sesame dipping sauce. The melt-in-your-mouth quality of the beef, combined with the subtly sweet sesame sauce that enhances the meat's flavor, creates an exquisite taste experience.
The restaurant displays masterpieces from renowned artists who were close friends of the second owner, including ceramic artist Kawai Kanjiro, Hamada Shoji, woodworker Kuroda Tatsuaki, and printmaker Munakata Shiko, adding a unique charm to the establishment.
Enjoying delicious food in this high-quality, unique space is sure to become an unforgettable memory of your trip.
