About Kagoshima Flower Park
The largest flower and plant park in Japan. Enjoy plants from around the world in a warm climate.
Details
Located near Nagasakibana at the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula, this botanical garden spans an impressive 36.5 hectares, making it the largest in Japan. Surrounded by natural pine forests, the garden showcases subtropical plants from South Africa and Australia, as well as temperate plants and flora from around the world, all thriving in a warm climate.
The garden features several noteworthy attractions. The indoor garden, with its transparent roof and no walls, offers a spacious feel reminiscent of European palace gardens. There are also greenhouses where tropical plants like the red betel nut (scarlet coconut) and lotus flowers bloom. Each winter, the garden hosts a floral illumination event, allowing visitors to enjoy a unique experience even during the off-season for flowers.
There are multiple walking paths and flower viewing spots throughout the garden. Highlights include an observation corridor that provides panoramic views of Kagoshima Bay and a flower plaza featuring seasonal flower beds arranged in various patterns against the backdrop of Kaimondake. Visitors with limited mobility or the elderly can take advantage of the garden's shuttle bus, which allows for easy boarding whenever there is space available. Alternatively, visitors can rent a car (for a fee) and drive with a regular driver's license.
