About Kamikochi
Attracting about 1.2 million visitors each year, it is one of Japan's most famous mountain scenic spots.
Details
Kamikochi is one of Japan's most famous mountain scenic spots, recognized for its beautiful natural landscapes with the titles of "Special Scenic Area" and "Special Natural Monument." The beauty of Kamikochi was highly praised in the book "Climbing and Exploration in the Japanese Alps," written by British missionary Walter Weston in 1896, which helped to make Kamikochi known worldwide.
Kamikochi features well-maintained walking paths, allowing visitors to enjoy the stunning views of the nearby Hotaka Mountain Range, with peaks around 3,000 meters high. It is also one of the starting points for climbing famous mountains like "Yari-dake," so you can often see many hikers with backpacks. Additionally, there is a well-maintained trail between "Taisho Pond" and "Kappa Bridge," perfect for leisurely strolls while taking in the scenery.
Every year, from mid-November to the end of April, the area is closed to the public. To reduce the impact of automobile emissions, protect the growth and reproduction of animals and plants, and maintain fresh air and pure water sources, private cars are prohibited from entering Kamikochi during this period.
The natural scenery of Kamikochi is incredibly rich, with countless highlights. There are majestic mountains, beautiful lakes and marshlands, and the gentle flow of clear rivers. The changing weather and seasons present different landscapes, providing travelers with continuous surprises and unexpected rewards.
