It is also one of the starting points for climbing famous mountains like "Yari-dake," so you can often see many hikers with backpacks. Every year, from mid-November to the end of April, the area is closed to the public. To reduce the impact of automobile emissions, protect the growth and reproduction of animals and plants, and maintain fresh air and pure water sources, private cars are prohibited from entering Kamikochi during this period.
