🗺️ Kirishima Art Forest

📝 Introduction

The numerous three-dimensional works that blend art and nature are truly mesmerizing!

📖 Details

Located at the foot of Kirishima Mountain and on the slopes of Kurino-dake, this modern outdoor art museum (which also has indoor exhibits) features highly artistic sculptures that blend into the lush green forest of Kirishima. It is a place where one can engage with art amidst a rich natural environment. Artists from both Japan and abroad visit the area, drawing inspiration from its abundant nature, history, and culture to showcase their original works in the great outdoors. The main entrance features Yayoi Kusama's large work "Flower of Shangri-La" and Korean artist Choi Jeong-hwa's giant frames titled "You Are Art," both of which are popular photo spots. Inside, there are displays of Yayoi Kusama's "Red High Heels," Takashi Murakami's "PHYSICAL PIE," Yoko Ono's "Race to Extinction," Katsura Funakoshi's "Garden of Clouds," and Tadayoshi Sato's "Naughty Child," among others (please check the official website for information on indoor exhibits, as they may be temporarily closed due to special exhibitions or changes). The museum also features a glass-walled, open-feeling self-service café. There is a terrace seating area where visitors can enjoy a leisurely time while appreciating both nature and art.
