The "Kanpei Onsen" has been in operation for over 200 years and has long been a beloved hot spring destination for the residents of Kagoshima Prefecture. The source of the hot spring comes from the foothills of Kirishima, one of Japan's "One Hundred Famous Mountains," where volcanic activity is ongoing. Visitors can enjoy the numerous benefits of this renowned hot spring at the public baths with a single soak. Not only can you bathe in the hot spring, but it can also be consumed, making it quite precious. Local residents believe that the hot spring water is beneficial for health, and recent component analyses have revealed that the water contains a significant amount of "silica," one of many natural mineral components. Rainwater is filtered through layers of active volcanic rock, combined with nutrients such as calcium and sodium that dissolve from underground heat, as well as detoxifying sulfates and bicarbonate ions that help relieve fatigue. Approximately 40 tons of spring water are available daily for soaking or drinking. At the state-of-the-art facility "Kanpei Mineral Water Company" near the foothills, bottled spring water is available for purchase. The "Makizono Town Specialty Products Store" and "Makizono Town Welfare Specialty Products Store" next to Kanpei Mineral Water Company sell fresh local vegetables and various processed specialty products.
