About Kitchen 313 Kamiyuge
In the old house where my grandmother lived, handmade fruit preserves are sold.
Details
The bagel shop located on the road in Yuge Island. This wooden building was once the home of the shop manager, Ms. Maki Miyahata's grandmother and father. The large black pillars made from high-quality Douglas fir showcase the meticulous craftsmanship of the carpenter. The entire building has now been registered as a "National Tangible Cultural Property." Yuge Island is a maritime island where people live by the sea, home to many skilled shipbuilding carpenters. The houses crafted by these carpenters are durable and have stood the test of time for over a hundred years. To preserve this building, Ms. Miyahata moved her family back to the island from Kobe.
The staircase has been repurposed into product shelves, and a large round sieve is used for roasting coffee beans at home, utilizing various items as much as possible. The shop exudes a sense of traditional Japanese living and the warmth of human touch. To cherish this lifestyle, the bagels are not mass-produced by machines but are carefully hand-kneaded one by one, adhering to the principle of handmade production. The popular bagels have a chewy texture. The more you chew, the more you can taste the rich flavor of Hokkaido wheat, with the gentle taste of handmade goodness bursting in your mouth.
Enjoy bagels or hot coffee in the courtyard, take a short break, and then go for a walk nearby. The area where the bagel shop is located, Kamiyuge, retains decorations of traditional Japanese architecture known as "kuzido" or "namako wall," allowing visitors to personally experience the history of this port town, which once thrived as a residence for noble individuals.
