🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
Wearing a kimono and walking on the slopes of the Edo period, embark on a journey through time.
📖 Details
Kitsuki Castle Town is located about 5 kilometers east of JR "Kitsuki" Station, near Kitsuki Castle, an area ruled by the Matsudaira family during the Edo period. The quaint streets lined with preserved samurai residences have been designated as an important traditional building preservation area and are quite famous as filming locations for Japanese period dramas and movies.
The representative attractions of the castle town include the cobblestone slope "Suya no Saka," which connects the samurai residences on the high ground to the commercial street, as well as "Shioya no Saka" located opposite. There are also kimono rental shops nearby, allowing visitors to stroll in kimonos while taking commemorative photos. Other beautiful slopes include "Ameya no Saka" and "Kandōba no Saka." Additionally, samurai residences such as "Ōhara-tei," "Nokami-tei," and "Isoya-tei" are open for visits.
Kitsuki City is situated on the route from Beppu to Oita Airport, making it a great stop to explore on the last day of your journey. Participating in a mini tour led by volunteers, organized by the Kitsuki City Tourism Association (guide fee: 1000 yen for 1 hour), can deepen your understanding while you explore the area.
