📖 Details
Kounosu City in Saitama Prefecture has been a famous doll production area since the Edo period. In particular, the splendor and intricacy of the doll clothing are considered the best in the Kanto region. It is said that artisans from Edo would come here to learn their craft. The "Kounosu Amazing Doll Festival" is an event held to allow more people to appreciate the dolls that Kounosu City takes pride in.
*Doll Festival (Hinamatsuri) is an annual Japanese holiday that prays for the healthy growth and happiness of girls in the family. During the festival, dolls called "Hina Ningyo" are displayed on platforms.
Every year from late February to early March, a giant pyramid appears on the floor of the atrium at the shopping center "Elumi Kounosu." This doll pyramid, approximately 7 meters high and consisting of 31 layers, is adorned with nearly 1,800 dolls. Its scale is considered the largest doll pyramid in Japan.
To fully appreciate such a massive doll display, it is recommended to look up from the first layer and then view it from the top down. The sight of countless dolls on the vibrant red carpet is breathtaking. It is suggested to get close to the dolls and carefully observe the different facial expressions and clothing patterns of each doll.
In addition to the main venue, there are several other display locations nearby. You can take a free shuttle bus from "Elumi Kounosu" to visit these sites.
