About Kondai Sake Brewery
A sake brewery that carefully brews sake using high-quality rice and water as raw materials.
Details
Founded in 1767, Jindai Tsukasa Sake Brewery is the closest sake brewery to Niigata Station, the gateway to Niigata Prefecture, which boasts the largest number of sake breweries in Japan. Adhering to traditional brewing methods, it exclusively uses pure rice brewing without adding any alcohol (generally, brewing without adding alcohol is more labor-intensive, but it brings out the original flavor of the rice). The brewery insists on using sake rice suitable for brewing produced in Niigata Prefecture and natural water from the famous Niigata spring, "Suganadake," paying great attention to the quality of its ingredients.
To allow more people to experience the joy of Japanese sake, the brewery offers guided tours (by reservation only, with a tour duration of about 30 minutes. English tours are available at 14:00 on weekdays). Inside the warehouse, visitors can see many historical signs and brewing tools that reflect the passage of time. Tourists can also wear a happi (a traditional Japanese work jacket) for photos. After the tour, visitors can sample Japanese sake. In the attached shop, special sake can be purchased, such as those that pair well with oysters or elegantly designed premium sake bottles shaped like koi fish. Additionally, there are many original souvenirs related to sake, including small sake cups and bottles designed with a rice ball motif. At this store, you can not only choose a bottle of your favorite Japanese sake for yourself but also consider purchasing souvenirs to gift to important friends and family.
