Kusatsu Onsen is renowned as one of Japan's "Three Great Hot Springs." The natural flow rate of Kusatsu Onsen exceeds 32,300 liters per minute, making it the highest in Japan. The acidity of the spring water is also quite high, well-known for its excellent antibacterial properties. The "Yubatake," located in the center of the hot spring town, is a landmark representing Kusatsu Onsen. Natural hot spring water continuously gushes out amidst the steam and the smell of sulfur, with a flow rate of up to 4,000 liters per minute. There are walking paths and benches around, making it a great place for a stroll. Nishinaka Park, where hot spring water flows from various sources, is also very popular. The park features the open-air "Nishinaka Outdoor Bath," where visitors can enjoy bathing while experiencing nature. The Jizo area, known for its hot spring outflows, was redeveloped in 2021 and has become a new famous sightseeing spot. The newly established "Yuzuyu," themed around the "Washing Eye Jizo" located here, allows visitors to steam their faces with vapor, attracting many female travelers. The streets of Kusatsu Onsen are lined with charming ryokans, and there are many restaurants serving dishes made with various local specialties, as well as elegant cafes and a wide variety of souvenir shops. It is highly recommended to enjoy a leisurely walk through the streets of Kusatsu Onsen.

Getting There
(1) About a 1 hour and 35 minute drive from the Usui Karuizawa Interchange on the Joshinetsu Expressway. (2) Approximately 1 hour and 18 minutes to 1 hour and 55 minutes by Kusatsu Kotsu or Seibu Tourist Bus from the "Karuizawa" station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, getting off at Kusatsu Onsen. (3) About a 25 minute ride on the JR Bus towards Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal from the JR East Nagano Line "Nagano-hara Kusatsu-guchi" station on the Limited Express Kusatsu, getting off at the Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal.
