About Kyoto Tower (Nidec Kyoto Tower)
A landmark building that is full of the charm of Kyoto.
Details
After exiting Kyoto Station, you will see the towering Kyoto Tower, officially named "Nidec Kyoto Tower." Standing at 131 meters tall, the Kyoto Tower is themed as a lighthouse illuminating the streets of Kyoto and is the tallest building in the city. Since its opening in 1964, it has welcomed over 32 million visitors. From the observation deck, which is 100 meters above ground, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Kyoto's cityscape, and on clear days, you can even see the scenery around Osaka through the free telescopes provided there.
In addition to the beautiful views from the tower, the floors below the iron tower are also worth exploring. The commercial facility "KYOTO TOWER SANDO," located from the basement level to the second floor, is filled with the charm of Kyoto. The basement level features a food area with numerous famous and popular Kyoto eateries. There are many Kyoto-themed products, including Japanese and Western sweets, pickles, and beauty items, making it a great place to pick up souvenirs. The second floor offers experiences such as making wagashi (Japanese sweets), sushi-making workshops, Kiyomizu pottery painting classes, and kimono rental services, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Kyoto's culture. Floors 5 to 9 host a hotel, which could be considered as an option for accommodation in Kyoto.
At night, the Kyoto Tower lights up, enhancing its presence. It also changes its lighting according to the seasons, illuminating in red, blue, pink, or green, allowing visitors to appreciate the tower's different appearances throughout the year.
