📝 Introduction

The fourth national museum in Japan after Tokyo, Nara, and Kyoto. It showcases the history of cultural exchange between Japan and various Asian countries.

📖 Details

The Kyushu National Museum, located in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, holds an important position in Japan's ancient history. It once served as a political hub governing the Kyushu region and had frequent exchanges with various parts of the world. Against this historical backdrop, the museum opened in 2005 with the unique concept of "examining the formation of Japanese culture from the perspective of Asian history." It is the fourth national museum in Japan. The main exhibition space is the permanent exhibition hall on the fourth floor, called the "Cultural Exchange Exhibition Room," which introduces the history of cultural exchanges between Japan and various Asian and European countries. The theme is "Maritime Routes, Asian Routes," and the exhibits are divided into five periods, showcasing artifacts and materials that testify to cultural exchanges between Japan and the world from the Paleolithic era to the Edo period. To provide a comprehensive introduction to Japanese culture, the permanent exhibition frequently changes its displays, ensuring that visitors can make new discoveries at any time. The museum also features a free-entry experiential exhibition hall called "Asia Bar." Here, visitors can understand the "colors," "shapes," "forms," and "flavors" of different countries through their five senses. Additionally, visitors can play with musical instruments and toys from various Asian countries and participate in innovative hands-on activities like crafting. "Asia Bar" often hosts lectures and activities that both adults and children can enjoy. Moreover, the museum regularly holds special exhibitions themed around culture and history, so please check the official website for detailed information before your visit. The Kyushu National Museum is connected to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine by a pedestrian walkway, which takes about 10 minutes to walk.
