Lake Hibara, located in Fukushima Prefecture, was formed by the eruption of Mount Bandai. The lake has a circumference of about 31 kilometers and is the largest lake in Urabandai. There is a road that circles the lake, allowing visitors to enjoy the rich seasonal scenery, making it a very popular spot for drives. There are sightseeing boats and electric boats that operate on the lake, providing views of Mount Bandai from the water. Activities at Lake Hibara vary by season. From spring to autumn, visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the lakeshore, taking in the beautiful cherry blossoms, fresh greenery, and autumn leaves, with many campers also enjoying the area. For those who want to relax and take in the stunning natural scenery, the 35-minute sightseeing boat ride is a great option. The most famous winter activity at Lake Hibara is fishing for whitefish. During certain periods, visitors can fish from dome boats, houseboats, or ice huts, and enjoy cooking and eating the freshly caught fish. Fishing gear is available for rent, so you can enjoy fishing even if you come empty-handed. Additionally, from late December to mid-January, when the lake surface freezes, visitors can also walk on the ice.
