About Linjiang Pavilion
Explore the beauty of elegant Japanese-style architecture, along with nighttime lighting!
Details
Rinkakaku in Gunma Prefecture is an elegant wooden structure in traditional Japanese style, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Within its grounds stand three buildings: the main hall, a tea room, and an annex, creating an illusion of stepping back in time.
The main hall was built in September 1884 and originally served as a guesthouse for Emperor Meiji and members of the imperial family, boasting a long history. Its sukiya-style architecture encapsulates Japanese aesthetics, creating a chic and elegant space. The tranquil tea room was completed in November of the same year. In 1910, the annex was added, featuring a large hall on the second floor that spans 180 tatami mats (approximately 300 square meters), where it is said that the wedding of modern poet Hagiwara Sakutarō took place.
After nightfall, the lighting transforms the solemn atmosphere of the day. The water blue "Shinbashi color" and the purplish-red "Eggplant color" illuminate the building, creating a fantastical ambiance that captivates visitors.
