About Machida Squirrel Park
The recreational facility has about 200 Taiwan squirrels roaming freely.
Details
The Machida Squirrel Park, covering an area of approximately 2,500 square meters, is home to around 200 Taiwanese squirrels, as well as chipmunks, guinea pigs, rabbits, and tortoises, allowing visitors to enjoy interactions with these small animals.
In the squirrel feeding area, you can feed Taiwanese squirrels sunflower seeds; in the interaction area, you can pet the rabbits or feed the guinea pigs with food.
The park also features three species of squirrels: chipmunks and Japanese squirrels. From spring to autumn, you can see about ten species of tortoises outdoors, some of which are rare species. As autumn and winter arrive, the tortoises move into the greenhouse, as they only go outdoors when the weather is warm. The most famous tortoise is "Junko." On weekends and public holidays, you can watch Junko eating in the squirrel feeding area, and her hearty eating style is loved by both adults and children.
The park opened in December 1988. Although it is a recreational facility, it also serves as a Type B employment support facility under the Act for Supporting the Independence of Persons with Disabilities.
