🎎 Machiya Kanazawa Kikunoya Tea Ceremony and Geisha Experience
🎨 Festival Gallery
📝 Introduction
Experience Kanazawa's "Omotenashi" (hospitality) through Geisha and the tea ceremony.
📖 Details
Kanazawa's Chaya District dates back to the 19th century and still retains three chaya streets: Higashi, Nishi, and Mukai-machi. Many people are very interested in the "chaya culture" of enjoying geisha performances, but due to the chaya's unique rule of "no new customers," the general public rarely has the chance to glimpse into the world of chaya. The "Tea Ceremony and Geisha Experience" held at "Kikunoya" allows participants to experience chaya culture and authentic tea ceremonies.
The "Machiya Kikunoya," a traditional Kanazawa town house built over a hundred years ago, features one of the distinctive red checkered designs of Kanazawa townhouses. Before the geisha experience, participants first engage in the tea ceremony Omotenashi (hospitality) in an elegant tea room, where they can watch a traditional tea preparation demonstration by tea master Yuta Takahashi.
The geisha experience includes a performance of taiko drumming and graceful dance by the geisha. During the zashiki taiko experience, participants can play the taiko drum under the guidance of the geisha and also enjoy traditional zashiki games.
