Details
Makino Pic-land (Takashima City Makino Agricultural Park) is an agricultural park located in the Takahara area of Makino Town, Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture. This expansive park is divided into three zones, where visitors can enjoy various outdoor recreational activities.
The main zone is the "Orchard Zone," where you can experience the joy of picking seasonal fruits and vegetables. From late May to mid-June, cherries are in season; from mid-June to early September, blueberries; from early August to mid-September, grapes; from mid-September to late October, chestnuts and sweet potatoes; and from early October to late November, apples. Throughout the year, except during the winter snow season, experiential activities are almost continuous.
The second zone is the "Park Zone," which includes a comprehensive management center building, a golf course, a lawn plaza, a direct sales store for agricultural products, a cafΓ©, and a restaurant, among various facilities. Inside the center building, there is a handmade ice cream shop offering a variety of flavors of original Italian ice cream. Additionally, there is a specialty store where you can purchase local agricultural products and souvenirs.
The third zone is the "Scenic Area" located along the roadside of the park zone, which is also a must-see attraction. After passing through the Orchard Zone and exiting onto the road, you will see tall metasequoia trees lined up in rows, leading to the "Metasequoia Avenue." This tree-lined avenue showcases different charms in each season; it is lush and green in spring and summer, adorned with beautiful red leaves in autumn, and covered in a silver-white blanket in winter. No matter when you visit, you can enjoy breathtaking scenery that refreshes the spirit. This avenue has also been selected as one of the "New Japan's Top 100 Street Trees" and one of the "Top 100 Autumn Foliage Spots in Japan."
Highlights
Located on the west shore of Lake Biwa, this leisure park is filled with nature. Experience activities for picking seasonal fruits and vegetables are available continuously from early summer through the winter snow season. The beautiful avenue lined with metasequoia trees in all four seasons resembles a scene from a postcard or an oil painting.
