About Manqi Cave
Once praised by Akiko Yosano, it is filled with unique stalactite caves.
Details
Manjido is said to have been discovered by hunters chasing foxes during the late Edo period, resulting in the accidental finding of this limestone cave. It stretches 450 meters in length and reaches a width of 25 meters at its widest point. Inside the cave, colorful lighting creates a dreamlike atmosphere. In 1929, the poet Yosano Tekkan and his wife Akiko praised this cave as "a cave full of wonders," which is how it got its name, "Manjido."
The horizontal cave has only slight variations in elevation, maintaining a temperature of around 15 degrees Celsius year-round, making it warm in winter and cool in summer. In the deepest part of the vast space, a majestic underground lake is spanned by the red "Ryugu Bridge." Here, numerous stalactites and stone pillars are illuminated by vibrant colored lights, creating a mysterious ambiance.
At the other end of the pathway surrounded by stalactites lies "Senmaidata," which is well-known for being a filming location for the movie "Yatsu Haka Mura." There are also more than 30 named attractions, including "Dream Palace," "Kegon Falls," "Lover's Spring," and "Otome no Urashima."
Highlights
Colorful and dreamy LED lighting is quite popular. The majestic vast space is filled with attractions worth seeing, such as stalactites and "Senmaida" (千枚田). The cave maintains a pleasant temperature throughout the year, both in winter and summer.
