About Metropolitan Memories Piano
The piano in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building's observation room is open for the public to play freely, and its unique appearance attracts everyone's attention!
Details
The observation room on the 45th floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building's main tower offers a panoramic view of the Tokyo cityscape from a height of 202 meters, attracting around 200,000 visitors each year and is a popular spot among foreign tourists. The "Metropolitan Government Memories Piano" was introduced in the south observation room after renovations in 2019. It was established with the hope that domestic and international visitors could deepen their interactions through music and create beautiful memories.
The exterior decoration of the platform piano, donated by Tokyo residents, was designed by the honorary Tokyo resident artist Yayoi Kusama. It is available for all visitors to play or enjoy. The bold decoration featuring a yellow background with black polka dots showcases Yayoi Kusama's unique style and striking visual effect.
The piano is open for use during the south observation room's visiting hours from 10 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 4 PM, totaling 4 hours. Each person can play freely for a maximum of 5 minutes. On weekends, a large number of people eager to play often form long lines. Piano playing does not accept reservations, and other musical instruments are not allowed inside for performance or singing. Please adhere to the rules when performing on-site.
