About Mizuki Waterbird Park
Birdwatching facilities located in one of the top habitats for wild birds in Japan.
Details
The Chūhai, spanning Tottori Prefecture and Shimane Prefecture, is one of the top habitats for wild birds in the San'in region, with about 40% of the bird species found in Japan appearing here. Located on the northeastern shore of Chūhai, the Yonago Waterbird Park is a birdwatching facility, with approximately 28 hectares of wetlands established as a sanctuary for waterbirds to live safely.
In the park, various waterbirds, including the small swans that come to Japan to winter in late autumn, ducks, herons, the nationally designated natural monument, the White-fronted Goose, and the Bean Goose, can be seen resting in the ponds and wetlands. Since most areas of the park are off-limits, visitors can only observe wild birds in certain areas such as the Nature Center and the observation deck. The observation hall features three glass walls and heating and cooling systems, providing a comfortable environment. There are telescopes by the windows in the observation hall, offering views of the famous Daisen mountain in Tottori and the islands of Chūhai.
The Nature Center includes exhibition rooms, an audiovisual room, and a conference room, and also hosts observation meetings and workshops related to seasonal wildlife. The park's scavenger hunt activity is also very popular among visitors.
Highlights
The park near the Mediterranean Sea is one of Japan's top habitats for wild birds. The area around the pond is designated as a bird sanctuary, allowing waterfowl to live safely. Wild birds can be observed from the nature center. The park offers a distant view of the famous peaks and mountains. Various activities such as observation meetings and project planning are held.
