You can enjoy the cityscape of Kitakyushu from the Hiroki Observation Deck. To reach the 622-meter high Sarakura Mountain Observation Deck, you need to take a cable car and then transfer to a monorail. The distance from the base station to the mountaintop station is 1,100 meters, with an elevation gain of 440 meters, making it the longest cable car in western Japan. During the ride, you can admire the constantly changing scenery through large glass windows. Looking down from the Sarakura Mountain Observation Deck, you can see the night view of Kitakyushu, which is on par with Nagasaki and Sapporo, and is recognized as one of Japan's "New Three Major Night Views." The night view from Sarakura Mountain is known as the "Billion Dollar Night View" and has been selected as one of Japan's New Three Major Night Views and one of Kyushu's "Lover's Sanctuaries." From Kokura to the Kanmon Straits, including the Wakatō Bridge and the Dokai Bay area, the entire city of Kitakyushu, with a population of one million, is visible. In the observation deck's restaurant, you can enjoy delicious food while taking in the expansive 200-degree panoramic view. There are also hiking trails available, attracting many who want to enjoy the thrill of climbing. Among the eight hiking routes, the most popular one is the "Kōsai Forest Route." Since the route starts with an uphill climb, it is more suitable for those with good stamina, and you can enjoy the scenery of each season along the way, taking about 90 minutes to ascend.
