📜 Content

The Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, opened in 1995. At that time, it inherited approximately 3,000 artworks from the Tokyo Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts, which was established in 1926. After undergoing renovations, it reopened in 2019. The museum currently has a collection of around 5,500 artworks. Each year, the museum hosts 6 to 8 special contemporary art exhibitions and divides the year into four exhibition periods, featuring the collection in the "MOT Collection Exhibition." Each period has a different theme, and artworks are selected based on the specific theme to convey the trends, movements, and rich diversity of contemporary art. Special exhibitions include large international shows, painting, sculpture, fashion, architecture, and design exhibitions, covering various fields of modern art. The museum simultaneously hosts several different types of exhibitions, making it easy for visitors to find works they enjoy. The architecture of the museum itself is also remarkable. The entrance corridor is 140 meters long, and the glass walls on the south side extend the view to the adjacent Kiba Park and lush greenery. These trees display different natural scenery as the seasons change, adding enjoyment to the visit to the museum. Outdoor displays feature many large sculptures and works by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. The museum provides a multilingual introduction booklet, available in Japanese, English, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
