About Nagai Sake Brewery
A sake brewery located at the foot of Mount Takasaki in Kawaba Village, Gunma Prefecture. It infuses pure snowmelt water into the soul of sake, creating a drink that embodies the beauty of nature.
Details
The first head of Nagai Shuzo was attracted by the unique natural water and beautiful nature of Kawaba Village in Gunma Prefecture, and established the sake brewery in 1886, beginning a brewing career. Throughout its long history of sake brewing, the company has always adhered to the brewing philosophy of presenting the "natural beauty" bestowed by nature, launching the sake brands "Mizubasho" and "Tanikawa-dake," which perfectly showcase the beauty of nature.
Ten years after the introduction of sake brands such as "Mizubasho" and "Tanikawa-dake," Nagai Shuzo discovered the potential and charm of rice through hundreds of repeated studies. They incorporated secondary fermentation techniques into traditional sake production, creating the authentic sparkling sake "MIZUBASHO PURE," and in 2014 launched "Nagai Style," a sake designed to pair with cuisine. The "Nagai Style" categorizes sake into four types based on food pairings: sparkling sake named "MIZUBASHO PURE," traditional brand sakes (Mizubasho and Tanikawa-dake), Vintage Sake, and Dessert Sake.
Nagai Shuzo has also made outstanding contributions to enhancing the recognition of its sake brands. For instance, "MIZUBASHO PURE" won the highest award in the sparkling wine category at the 2020 Kura Master sake competition in France; "Mizubasho Junmai Daiginjo Premium" also won a gold medal in the inaugural Japanese sake category at the FEMINALISE World Wine Competition.
Nagai Shuzo is a brewery that embodies the beautiful and rich nature of Kawaba Village, along with local culture, history, and human characteristics, playing an active role in spreading Japanese culture through the craftsmanship and techniques passed down through generations. Within the brewery, there is a directly operated store called "Koshinkan." Visitors can experience the charm of Nagai Shuzo through tours or tasting events.
