About Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium
Swimming! Strolling! An aquarium featuring 180 penguins of 9 different species.
Details
Just a 20-minute drive from the center of Nagasaki City, the "Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium," as its name suggests, is a unique aquarium themed around penguins. There are 18 species of penguins in the world, and 9 of them, totaling 180 individuals, reside here.
One of its highlights is the "Sub-Antarctic Penguin Pool," which features the largest pool in Japan, reaching a depth of 4 meters, where you can see penguins swimming freely. Another feature is the "Temperate Penguin Zone," which allows for observation of penguin ecology from various angles. The world's smallest penguin, the adorable Little Blue Penguin, is the most popular star. Additionally, special events are held on weekends and holidays. The "Close Encounter Penguin Beach" is a world-first attempt, showcasing penguins swimming in the natural ocean in front of the aquarium, providing a refreshing experience.
In addition to penguins, the aquarium also exhibits various aquatic creatures, including the world's largest freshwater fish, the Mekong Giant Catfish, thousands of swimming blackback sardines, and various fish species from the waters around Nagasaki. Outdoors, there is an "Ecological Environment Zone" that recreates the satoyama and riverside environments of Nagasaki, where you can observe seasonal plants, fish, and insects. Don't miss the souvenir shop filled with a variety of cute penguin merchandise.
