The collection primarily consists of about 8,000 pieces of art related to Nagasaki. Particularly notable is the collection that spans from medieval Christian art to modern Spanish art, making it one of the largest art museums in the East. The permanent exhibition hall is filled with masterpieces that are regularly changed multiple times a year, such as Pablo Picasso's "Still Life with Dove" and Joan Miró's "Painting." Additionally, the carefully curated special exhibitions are also very well received.
The museum is adjacent to the "Nagasaki Waterfront Forest Park." It consists of two buildings designed by the world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma, which not only provide opportunities for art appreciation but also include many facilities for leisurely enjoyment, such as corridors with gentle breezes, a rooftop garden overlooking Nagasaki Port, and a café close to the water's edge.
The museum shop sells souvenirs from the "Museo del Prado" as well as high-quality original products designed by artists related to Nagasaki.
