🗺️ Naha City Traditional Crafts Museum

📝 Introduction

Showcase the charm of five traditional crafts deeply rooted in Naha.

📖 Details

The Naha City Traditional Crafts Center is a facility that showcases the traditional craft culture that Naha takes pride in, a culture that has been passed down through generations since the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom era. The center introduces five traditional crafts: Tsuboya pottery, Ryukyu bingata (dyed textiles), Shuri-ori (woven textiles), Ryukyu lacquerware, and Ryukyu glass. In the permanent exhibition hall, masterpieces created by Living National Treasures and historical works are displayed according to the five types of crafts. Additionally, the production process is explained in a simple and understandable manner through screens. Experiential activities where visitors can create their own Naha traditional crafts are also very popular. At the renowned Ryukyu glass studio "Okuyama Glassworks," which has been established for 70 years, participants can join the "Ryukyu Glass Cup Blowing Experience" (creating a glass cup or narrow vase), the "Ryukyu Bingata Experience" for traditional Okinawan dyeing, and the "Maki-e Experience" to learn the unique gold-leaf application technique of Ryukyu lacquerware, among other activities. All five traditional crafts can be experienced. The unique traditional craft pieces made by oneself make for the best souvenirs for oneself or for friends and family.

⭐ Highlights

You can experience the production of five traditional crafts from Naha at the same time.
