About Nara Historical Art and Culture Village

Facilities that allow you to experience the diverse culture of the ancient capital, Nara.

Details

Opened in March 2022, the Nara History and Art Culture Village is a complex facility consisting of four buildings: the Cultural Heritage Restoration Exhibition Hall, the Art and Cultural Experience Hall, the Exchange and Leisure Hall, and the Information Promotion Hall, along with an outdoor experience area. It allows visitors to engage with Nara's proud diverse culture, encompassing history, art, cuisine, and agriculture. The Nara History and Art Culture Village is the first in Japan to publicly showcase the restoration of cultural heritage across four major fields: sculptures (such as Buddha statues), painting and calligraphy, historical architecture, and archaeological artifacts. This is the largest highlight for visitors. The displayed items are not replicas but precious cultural heritage, with scenes of experts restoring them by hand, making it a must-see even for those who are not history enthusiasts. Additionally, there are attractive offerings such as exchanges with domestic and international artists and art courses aimed at children. The common thread among these experiences is the model of discussion and interaction with experts and other participants, which expands curiosity and deepens learning, ensuring that visits go beyond mere observation or listening to explanations. Visitors can enjoy an enriching experience of exploring new questions and discoveries through the actions of "connecting," "experiencing," and "feeling."
