📝 Introduction

You can simultaneously appreciate the beautiful scenery of Lake Ashi and the masterpieces of modern Japanese painting in a private art museum.

📖 Details

The Narukawa Art Museum, which opened in 1988, has always focused on showcasing the charm of modern Japanese painting. Centered around 150 works by the post-war art world pioneer and recipient of the Order of Culture, Yamamoto Kyūjin, along with 40 works (including sketches) by Hirayama Ikuo, the museum houses approximately 4,000 masterpieces representing modern Japanese painting. The Narukawa Art Museum does not have a permanent exhibition; instead, it changes its displays three times a year and holds various special exhibitions periodically. The sculptural masterpieces in the museum's collection are on display at all times. The first floor of the museum features an observation deck where visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Ashi. A 50-meter-long glass window offers a glimpse of the stunning views of Lake Ashi and the surrounding mountains, which are truly picturesque and captivating. After enjoying the masterpieces and the beautiful scenery, it is recommended to take a break at the museum's café. Named "Kisetsufū" after Yamamoto Kyūjin's representative work, the café allows visitors to appreciate the seasonal views of Lake Ashi while leisurely enjoying tea with valuable art crafts provided by Ishii Koji and Mikami Ryo. The menu includes light meals such as hot sandwiches and pizza, as well as limited-time original desserts. After your visit, you can also purchase souvenirs at the museum's shop. In addition to reproductions of the collected works, the shop offers themed silk scarves and other decorative items. Be sure to look for your favorite works and souvenirs here.
