In Tokushima Prefecture, one of the top lotus root production areas in the country, especially in Naruto City, lotus root fields can be seen everywhere. This "Lotus Root Field Tour" is a leisurely bicycle trip along rural paths used in the daily lives of local residents, guided by a knowledgeable tour guide, taking you to places not found in typical travel books. It is believed that during this journey, you will encounter unique and beautiful scenery. The walking tour begins at the meeting point, JR Ikatani Station. First, you will ride rented bicycles through the lotus root fields. Between February and May, you can see the Oriental Stork, designated as a National Natural Monument, nesting and raising its young; in June, the lotus leaves grow densely; and from July to August, the lotus flowers bloom abundantly, showcasing a variety of changing landscapes with the seasons. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll in the lotus root fields while listening to the guide explain the ecology of the lotus root and the surrounding nature. After cycling through the lotus root fields, the tour will head to a local agricultural product sales center to see seasonal vegetables and local specialties. In the food area, you can also taste delicious light meals, such as udon noodles topped with plenty of Naruto kelp. At the end of the tour, enjoy lunch at Renmaru Café, which prides itself on its lotus root dishes.
