Details
The National Museum of Nature and Science, located within Ueno Park, is Japan's only comprehensive national museum dedicated to the history of natural history and science and technology.
The "Japan Gallery" was completed in 1931 and is characterized by a Western-style architecture based on the new renaissance style, which has been designated as an important cultural property of Japan. Inside the museum, the exhibits showcase the natural features of the Japanese archipelago, its formation process, and the intertwined historical trajectory between the Japanese people and nature. The basement level also houses a museum gift shop and the "36◯ Theater."
The "Earth Gallery" introduces the various forms of life on Earth, which have undergone a continuous cycle of birth and extinction in response to the ever-changing environment, showcasing the history of human wisdom. Additionally, the impressive fossil specimens of Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops on display in the basement level are definitely worth seeing.
In addition, there are outdoor exhibits such as the launch vehicle for Japan's first artificial satellite "OSHIMI (おおすみ)," among many other exciting highlights.
