About Nipple Hot Springs Village
A must-visit hidden hot spring village for hot spring enthusiasts.
Details
Nyuto Onsen is a collective term for the hot spring group located at the foot of Mount Nyuto, which is situated within the Towada-Hachimantai National Park in Akita Prefecture. The hot spring village consists of seven ryokans: Tsurunoyu, Myounoyu, Kuroyu, Kanba, Magoroku, Ougama, and Nyuto Onsen Village. The hot springs, scattered among the pristine beech forests, are praised as hidden gem hot springs. They are loved by many onsen enthusiasts for their natural environment that retains Japan's original scenery, nostalgic ryokan, and excellent quality of milky hot spring water.
Tsurunoyu Onsen is the oldest ryokan in Nyuto Onsen and is considered synonymous with the area. Tsurunoyu still preserves the thatched-roof building "Honjin," where the lord of the Akita domain used to stay for hot spring therapy. The facility has four different sources of hot spring water, with the most famous being the milky white mixed-gender outdoor bath.
The hot spring village offers various sources of hot spring water, each ryokan having its own unique water quality, effects, and atmosphere, allowing visitors to fully experience the unique charm of these hidden gem hot springs from different perspectives. For example, Myounoyu Onsen is known for its brown muddy water called "Kin no Yu," Kuroyu Onsen features an outdoor bath filled with rustic charm, Magoroku Onsen is referred to as the "Mountain Pharmacy," Kanba Onsen is named after the many mountain crabs found in the nearby mountain streams, Ougama Onsen is a converted wooden schoolhouse, and Nyuto Onsen Village is well-equipped with facilities.
