In March 2022, with the opening of the Dream Island Highway connecting to Iwaki Island, the cultivation of citrus fruits became popular, earning it the nickname "Island of Green Lemons." The Furukawa couple, who longed for island life, moved here from Kyoto after ordering lemons from this area and started their farm, "Blue Lemon Farm." The café, which opened in July 2022, is located about a 5-minute drive from the farm, and the manager is Mrs. Yukiko Furukawa, who greets every customer with a smile.
The best-selling item is the "Lemon Soda" (500 yen), which avoids diluting the flavor with melting ice by using more than one lemon from their own farm, frozen for preparation (the larger takeaway cups use over one and a half lemons). They use fully ripened lemons with higher sugar content, resulting in a pleasantly mild sourness. The fresh and fruity taste is delicious even without added sugar. The free refills are also a major attraction.
Other popular items include the irresistible "Strawberry Milk" (550 yen) with its sweet and sour flavor, "Orange Juice" made from winter-ripened citrus produced in Ishichi, and various baked goods such as bread, scones, and bagels made with rich Hokkaido wheat (each 250 yen). Additionally, the farm, located about a 5-minute drive away, offers a lemon-picking experience from November to April.
