📝 Introduction
A century-old traditional confectionery shop in Kuri's production area, Obuse, selling rich-flavored chestnut sweets.
📖 Details
Obuse-do Main Store was established during the Meiji era (1868-1912) and is a long-established confectionery shop in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture, a well-known chestnut-producing area. For over a hundred years, it has been making and selling traditional chestnut sweets such as Kurikinton, Kuriyokan, and Rakugan, using only chestnut paste. The chestnut paste, made solely from chestnuts and sugar without any unnecessary ingredients, is smooth and delicate, perfectly locking in the delicious flavor of the chestnuts.
The store features a dining area where you can enjoy its signature chestnut sweets. In addition to freshly made exquisite chestnut confections, you can also savor a monthly changing Japanese set meal made with seasonal ingredients.
It is recommended to choose your favorite chestnut sweets from seasonal offerings like Namagashi, Kurikinton, and Kuriyokan, paired with matcha. Additionally, during the summer, there is homemade chestnut syrup kakigori (shaved ice), and there are seasonal limited items like "Kuri Snack Suzaku," which is only available during the autumn when new chestnut paste is made. Be sure to stop by when visiting Obuse.
