"Ocean World Umikyu" opened in 1989 and is an aquarium themed around "Kyushu's Ocean," showcasing approximately 350 species and 30,000 creatures. In a large-scale renovation conducted in 2017, 90% of the tanks were replaced, including a deep-sea tank with a depth of 7 meters. This renovation more authentically recreates Kyushu's marine environment, allowing visitors to observe the ecological life in a way that is closer to nature. One of the highlights is the variety of performances centered around the popular "Dolphin and Sea Lion Show," as well as the "Open Sea Tank Show" and "Otter Feeding Show." Limited-time activities such as penguin walks and animal birthday celebrations, which allow for close encounters with the animals, should not be missed. For a break, it is recommended to visit the restaurant on the first floor. The restaurant's walls face the performance pool, allowing guests to enjoy watching dolphins swimming while tasting seafood burgers made from Miyazaki Prefecture's hammerhead shark, as well as a tempura and udon set featuring a penguin design.

In July 2022, the "Kyushu Water Forest" area, themed around freshwater organisms of Kyushu, officially opened. Please check the official website in advance for the performance times of various shows. The souvenir shop on the second floor offers exclusive aquarium snacks, stationery, plush toys, and other merchandise.
