📜 Shopping Details

Otokoya is known as the originator of the strawberry daifuku, which features large strawberries added to the traditional mochi. Its creation was inspired by an article read by the third-generation president of Otokoya, Heiwa Otoko, in a newspaper column during Japan's so-called bubble era in January 1985. The article suggested that "the era of Western-style desserts is coming to an end, and the era of wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) is about to begin." Inspired by this, Heiwa Otoko combined the traditional wagashi "daifuku" with strawberries, leading to the birth of the "original strawberry daifuku." In 1987, due to the popularity of the strawberry daifuku, Otokoya received the "Award of Merit" from the Japanese Wagashi Association's "Tōwakai." Subsequently, the "Toraya Bunko" published by Akasaka Toraya included Otokoya's strawberry daifuku in the history of wagashi. The "Shinkansen Monaka," meticulously designed for the Tokyo Station store, debuted on July 1, 2020, inspired by the new Shinkansen train model "N700S." This monaka is not only delicious but also features fun packaging that appeals to both adults and children.
